NUMEROLOGY

Numbers have been in use for over 11,000 years and there is evidence in old records that they are twice as old. There are various phases of Numbers, according to different alphabets, but we are living in the Western Hemisphere and vibrate only to our own alphabet. Consequently this system is now known as the "Western System." Although none of Pythagoras' records have been preserved to our knowledge, he is responsible for the foundation of Numbers. He established the theory of sound, the slant of the zodiacal circle, the sun as the center of the Universe and the diatonic scale. He based his teachings on mathematics, music and astronomy that he considered the basis of all the sciences and arts. He believed mathematics could exist without music and astronomy but that nothing could exist without Number.

The Western System has been in existence for several hundred years. The former Number Research Group of New York is largely responsible for the type of numeroscope you will learn to develop.

Numbers are an art or technique of measurement, but not an exact science. Numbers are based on mathematics, which is the only exact science known to us at present. As a technique of measurement Numbers give you a plan of action: they are a road map or guide for your especial talents. They show you what to do under a given set of circumstances and how to do it. They encourage you when you feel blocked or frustrated, and they give you a green light when there are no detours ahead.

The philosophy behind numbers will help you understand yourself, and as you understand yourself you will be more considerate of others' shortcomings. The study of this technique will help you make a contribution to society that will give you immeasurable returns.

Numbers would mean little if not substantiated by symbols. Before we can produce any number we must start with the boundless circle so ably explained in the story of creation, the old records as the darkness of chaos from which our world emerged. The circle is called "naught" or "no-thing" because it is without beginning and without end. The dot in the center of the circle represents the soul. Everything within the circle converges or centers on the ego. This is the seed from which your especial individuality, or will power, springs. As the seed is nurtured the inner being takes form and breaks through the pod or cell into its own expression.

Number 1 pushes outward, forcefully, dynamically, ceaselessly active to push toward its goal. Number 1 is ruled by both sun ☼ and mars. The sun ☼ give vitality and will power and mars the circle of spirit with the cross of matter above, produces forcefulness. Number 1 rules the head. This relates to all parts of the head up to the throat. Ideas begin their action in the mind and project themselves to all parts of the body. Mars and fire are necessary for the beginning of action. Because mars is the activator, is always represented by the first primary color, red, due to its forcefulness and aggressiveness. (Element-fire) The keyword is ENERGY

Number 2 represents duality, the positive and negative poles--male and female principle. 1 emerges from the circle of spirit and is forced to divide itself to learn cooperation, after it has learned to assert itself. 2 sees things from both sides, learns how to adjust differences diplomatically, gathers to itself, fluctuates in moods, is receptive, retentive, emotional, sentimental, rhythmic, imaginative and sensitive. It is ruled by the moon, the crescent, shaped like a cup. 2 like the moon / clings tenaciously to what it wishes to retain. Number 2 rules the kidneys. Absorption and throwing off wastes are the function of the kidneys. The moon and water create fluctuations in the body and establish the rhythmic quality for cleansing processes. Orange is the mediator between 1 and 3 (the blending of red and yellow) represents the fusion, or "two-ness" of the moon ruler. (Element-water). The keyword is SENSITIVITY.

Number 3 - This number represents the union of father and mother as they create the child and 3 represents creative expression. Due to the coordination of 2, a base if formed on the triangle to help 3 reach outward for new expression. 3 is ruled by Venus ♀ and Mercury circle of spirit is above the cross of matter in the pleasure loving Venus. Add the moon to the Venus ♀ symbol to indicate the soul which sets up emotion within the consciousness so the mind springs into action. Emotion is the adhesive to the soul. This denotes the critical side of the number 3. All 3's should cultivate their creative talents and should learn to express themselves easily through a well-rounded personality. The number 3 rules the throat and the liver both. Expression (3) comes through the throat and voice mechanism. Because the liver secretes bile and creates changes in the bloodstream, a person who is denied his expression will upset the natural action of the liver. The liver is also regarded as the seat of desire, especially amorous urges. For this reason, 3 ruled by Venus-Mercury, element fire is associated with physical love. The second primary color, yellow, is the expression of the creative trinity, life, joy, and strength. Venus and its intellectual side by Mercury show the number 3’s artistic side. (Element-fire) The keyword is EXPRESSION.

Number 4 - After the family is created they must have a base of operation or home. Man builds within the square on four principles: 1 spirit 2 soul, 3 mind, 4 body. With 4 you begin to learn your fundamental lessons and how to meet your limitations. Unless your body functions satisfactorily you cannot work the square of 4 successfully. In 4 you learn to systemize and organize your life. You should build inner security as well as outer security. All 4's meet their greatest benefits in work that deals with form. Saturn symbolized by the cross of matter above the moon-consciousness account for the practicality of this number. The keyword is FOUNDATION.

Number 5 - This shows the expansion of the square. After you have learned to meet your limitations you begin to look outside your field of action - to discover what lies beyond your boundaries. 5 represents the five senses, five fingers (with their sensitive tips), five toes, to give you a sense of direction and the five extensions of the body....two arms, two legs, and the head. It also represents the original five planets in our solar system and the five vowels of our alphabet. These vowels give a life to the flat sounding consonants that support them. 5 expresses freedom of action, a desire to be different and free of encumbrances. It is physically active and constantly seeks new experiences. It is ruled by Mars explained under number 1. The keyword is FREEDOM.

Number 6 - The cube and the interlocking triage (Hebraic start) both represent group consciousness. 6 shows the extension of the square of 4 to include family, or those who are part of your community. In 6 you extend a helping hand to others, show them how to adjust their difference. You should perform all necessary duties that are part of group problems, whether they lie close at hand or connect with business, professional or community problems. 6 is ruled by Jupiter the cross of matter with the moon or soul beside it. Here feeling and practical values are on an equal footing. Because of your innate understanding you are able to help others in a practical fashion. The keyword is ADJUSTMENT.

Number 7 - The square represents your efforts to work constructively and the divine trinity above assist you in your desire to reach outside yourself for perfection. After you have taken you six steps of development you are ready to examine yourself and your motives in order to perfect every possible department of your life. In 7 you are to withdraw from material advancement and to analyze every move. Take action without using aggression. 7 was called the number of completion and initiation by the ancients. You will find it mentioned many times in the Bible. It marks 7 days in our week, 7 colors in our spectrum, and 7 notes in the musical scale. In a more mundane world we have found we cannot completely withdraw from progress in 7 but we can learn to wait for things to come to use instead of forcing issues too energetically. 7 is ruled by Neptune Ψ a symbol composed of the moon, or consciousness pierced by the staff of the sun which has the circle of the sun at its base. This combination of sun and moon principles is the reason for the strong illumination or insight of Neptune. It is illusive, prophetic and sees through everything with clarity although it may not be able to clearly define what it sees and feels. It may be too negative to activate its ideas because it does not like to face reality. Denial is often its partner and can be the planet of illusion. The keyword is PERFECTION.

Number 8 - This symbolized by the dual square (twice 4). After you have gone through a period of self-analysis you are ready to project your newfound energy toward the world. You are concerned with demonstrations of your abilities - - with building your power into constructive form. In 4 you learn how to systemize your resources and with twice the qualifications you are ready to do things on a larger scale in 8. Because 8 is concerned with form and matter, in its density it may lose the spiritual significance of the upper lobe of this number. 8 becomes so concerned with its material welfare that it forgets about its soul development. 8, like 4 is ruled by Saturn the planet of crystallization and organization. A strong sense of responsibility is carried in the energy of the number 8. The keyword is ORGANIZATION.

Number 9 - This all-encompassing number draws to itself some of the qualities of each of the nine numbers. It is represented by the symbol of man at the top, viewing the two material squares below, each of a different nature. The first square is your early conditioning and the second your spiritual advancement. In 9 you have completed a full cycle and are ready to do something for the world at large. 9 is associated with all public matters, humanitarian affairs, and largeness of viewpoint. 9 only reaps its greatest harvest through objectivity, through compassion for everyone, great and small. 9 is ruled by the Sun ☼ the boundless circle without beginning or without end. It represents life in every phase, not only in the heart (center of life in your body) but also in every cell of that body. It counsels emotional control. When 9 becomes self-centered, demanding or possessive it fails to benefit from the value of this number. Experience in all forms, is its best teacher. The number 9 rules the sex organs, inflammation, and emotional reflexes. The intensity of 9 ruled by the sun, affects the body through emotions. Inflammation is manifested by redness and swelling, with heat and pain is the culmination of all the forces from 1 through 9. Emotions in its lower form, is associated with sex urges. The Keyword is UNDERSTANDING.

Number 11 - This is the first Master Number and is symbolized by a lightening stroke which in itself shows flashes of originality and inventiveness. 11 may be erratic and unpredictable - - high tensioned because it has not learned to handle the deep insight, or to be self-controlled. It is ruled by Uranus which is composed of the cross of matter with two moons, one of human nature and one of the dive, with the circle of the sun appended at the bottom. When 11 drops to the quality of 2 (on occasion) it loses much as a result. True 11’s have revolutionary ideas, are extremely modern minded and prefer to do away with the old, to take on the new. 11 must share with others, what is revealed to him and under no circumstances should he over-publicize his own virtues. The keyword is ILLUMINATION.

Number 22 - The second Master Number represents the idealistic qualities of 11 in double force. It is the idealist, clever enough to make his ideals practical. The number 22 builds the world of tomorrow today, and transmutes his dreams and visions into startling reality. His work is primarily for the masses--for large-scale enterprises and for international relationships. He (the number 22) takes the long-range view and does something about his vision. The symbol is an upright column, with light reaching in all directions. 22 is ruled by Pluto Б which is considered the planet of true spirituality. It stands for conscience of the society to which it belongs and raises that conscience to its highest levels if it is working constructively. Pluto and 22 elevates standards of living, creates huge housing projects for the underprivileged and deals in mass production. It represents unions and international organizations. On its lowest side it rules gangsters, mass persecution and violence of all forms. 22 may overshoot its mark in order to reach the heights it wishes to attain. It is markedly ambitious and may forget that it should foster its ambitions not only for its own benefits but for the benefit of the world at large. Transformation is always possible with a 22. The keyword is WISDOM.
